CERT
CERT, or Community Emergency Response Team, is a program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area. CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The Importance of CERT
CERT is an essential program for creating safer, more prepared communities by empowering citizens with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in times of crisis.
Importance of CERT:
- Enhanced Community Resilience: CERT volunteers can help increase the overall resilience of their communities by being prepared to respond to emergencies when professional responders are not immediately available.
- Immediate Assistance: CERT members can provide immediate assistance to victims, reducing the severity of injuries and potentially saving lives.
- Support for First Responders: By handling less critical tasks, CERT volunteers free up professional first responders to focus on more critical, life-threatening situations.
- Preparedness Education: CERT training encourages individuals and communities to develop emergency plans and conduct regular preparedness activities, enhancing overall disaster readiness.
- Building Community Cohesion: CERT programs foster a sense of community and teamwork, as neighbors work together to support each other during emergencies.
- Mitigation of Damage: Proper training can help reduce the damage to property and infrastructure by taking timely and appropriate actions during emergencies.
CERT Training
We are testing out a new hybrid program developed by the University of Utah. The regular in class program takes about 7 nights, one a week, and a partial Saturday to complete. With everyone’s life so busy it can be hard to free up that much time. The hybrid program allows people to do the class work on line on their own schedule and we will only need to meet around three times for the hands-on exercises to let everyone practice what they have learned. We will try to be flexible to make those times convenient. Select the CERT Training button to get the training.
The last item on the training page is a pull-down menu that has Kaysville City CERT listed on it. Chose this organization so we will have access to everyone’s progress and when we will need to start looking at times for the hands-on classes. The classes are free. We will make CERT bags available during the course with basic safety equipment in them for $35 dollars. This is optional. However, this equipment will be needed in some form if you would like to help out within the CERT organization at the city level. Please contact me if you have any questions.
