Compared to last month’s focus on food storage, our April goal is a piece of cake! Our objective this month is to become familiar with first aid procedures and acquire adequate first aid supplies.
Action items for this month:
- Study this “Types of Emergencies and Steps to Follow” handout and insert it in your preparedness binder.
- Talk with your doctor about securing an emergency supply of medications.
- If you don’t already have one, purchase a first aid kit. Our First Aid expert, Dena Eckardt, recommended these two kits:
First Aid Kit by noyCare on Amazon – $24.88.

REI Backpacker Extended First Aid Kit – $58.18

…Or create your own first aid kit with THESE RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES.
Note that you might want to order or create first aid kits for each of your vehicles. We will be discussing car emergency kits in November, but you can address the first aid needs for your car this month if you’d like.
4. Familiarize yourself with the contents of your first aid kit. Remember to make this a family project. Emergencies can happen when parents are away, so it is helpful for children to know some basic first aid. Family Home Evening can be a perfect time to teach this.

May Emergency Prep Meeting
Note that due to Mother’s Day on May 8 and Stake Conference on May 15, our next Emergency Prep Training Meeting will be held on May 22 at 4:15. Our topic is safeguarding our utilities during an emergency and addressing sanitation – a surprisingly crucial part of emergency prep. Kent Fisher and Linda Hufstetler will be our expert presenters. We anticipate that we will be offering several group buys for this training.
June Emergency Prep Meeting
In June we will be meeting at our regular time, the second Sunday, June 12, at 4:15 pm. Diane McLean will be teaching us about water storage, usage, and rotation.
